Was
definitely looking
forward to this
one.
I had only seen
Numan once before
(Exile tour
in Florida),
and I have really
been enjoying
the Pure album.
Irving Plaza
is a pretty
nice venue -
along the lines
of a big club,
a balcony along
three sides,
and a good-sized
stage.
After
the opening
act (Gwenmars)
- who incidentally
I did not think
were too bad
(and hey, they
only played
for 35 minutes
or so), work
began to get
the stage ready
for Gary. About
20 minutes later,
the opening
strains began,
and out they
came.
I
must say the
songs sounded
really good
and strong.
Gary was dressed
in an all-black
outfit, and
was looking
to really be
enjoying himself.
The rest of
the band were
really playing
hard, and were
really into
it. I was towards
the middle of
the floor, but
the crowd up
front looking
to be really
giving some
energy back
(not that we
were docile
back there!).
The
set had a pretty
decent light
show. Nothing
too fancy, but
fit the tone
of the songs.
Overall, the
song selection
was pretty much
what I expected
(detailed below),
but he pulled
out some stuff
I would not
have figured
on (Metal/Remind
Me To Smile).
Only one track
from Sacrifice
and Exile was
featured, and
I would have
expected a couple
more.
The
only real drawback
for me was when
someone actually
had the audacity
to tell me "I
payed to hear
him sing - not
you..." when
I was singing
along to Down
In The Park.
At
least by the
encore of AFE,
I had come across
a batch of fans
who were actually
singing along,
jumping around,
and having a
good time!
After
the show, groups
of people were
extremely enthusiastic
about the show
we had just
seen, hugging,
and really just
thrilled to
have been there.
Made me remember
how awesome
the Numan fans
are (I don't
run into too
many these days).
I was talking
to some people
who last saw
him back in
the '80s, and
I was really
glad to hear
them rave about
the show, and
the new material.
In summary -
a great, great
show for everyone.
If you are anywhere
near the path
of the tour,
get a ticket,
and get to the
show!
Cheers.

may have mixed
